a welcome surprise.
so this is going to demonstrate my oblivious nature, but i’m going to share this surprise with you anyway.
i inherited all of my mother’s and grandmother’s jewelry when my dad moved to virginia three years ago. (sadly, this collection isn’t what it was thanks to some jerks who burgled our family home when i was 14.) i keep one of my mom’s jewelry boxes on top of another jewelry stand, so just to set the stage for you – this box has been in plain sight for three years. the thing is, i don’t wear much jewelry of any kind, so this little box is rarely opened.
i decided to do a little organizing today, so i opened it to put things in their place today.
looks normal right? but wait. what’s this? the compartment is removable? is there anything underneath?
whoa! hello motherload of my grandmother’s accessories! what a sweet surprise to find, especially since there isn’t much of my grandmother’s jewelry around thanks to the burglary.
inside there’s this sweet antique stopwatch with a note about it belonging to a great grandfather, who traded a model t for it (?!).
and these gems. so very melba (my grandma’s name).
there was even a beaded pin that i made when i was a crafty little kid.
what a treasure i found inside this little box. a little bittersweet – a reminder of just how much i miss my mom and grandma.
