i heart nyc.
all cliches aside, i really did <3 nyc.
we spent the middle of june in the city with my brother and his boyfriend greg. i hadn’t been to nyc since i was maybe 8 or 9, and mr. halloran had never been, so it was a very welcome vacation to a new place for both of us.
we saw all the sights that regular tourists do – the museums (moma and natural history were the ones we spent the most time in), times square, soho, the village, wall street, ground zero, central park, etc. etc. and while manhattan was fun, andrew and greg’s neighborhood in brooklyn was by far our fave. manhattan is full of people. literally, full. and it’s very expensive. but this neighborhood in brooklyn, williamsburg, was an absolute delight. hip people galore. with fun restaurants and coffee shops and little stores. and organic food everywhere. people eat really, really well in williamsburg. the convenience stores don’t have anything but organic or all-natural food. it was amazeballs. (also, everything cost at least 50-100% more than in spokane, but whatevs, we were on vacation). we had the most amazing food. probably the best food of my life. my fave was le barricou in williamsburg – french cuisine with the most perfect ambiance.
more than the sights of the city, however, i loved being able to spend time with my family. my dad even came up for a day (my birthday!) to spend time with us which was so great. my brother and i haven’t really lived in the same place in many years, so it was so wonderful being able to spend an extended period of time with him and learn what an amazing grown-up he’s become. i’m so proud of him and the life he’s made for himself. also, getting to know greg better was the icing on the cake. mr. halloran and i can’t thank them both enough for their hospitality. we really had the best time. i even want to move to brooklyn a little. seriously.
we didn’t take many photos, and several of what we did take didn’t turn out due to flash issues, but here’s a snippet of our vacation.
